Perhaps this will be the year that I journal more...we shall see.

I am more than grateful to spend the new year with our local friends.

This year has had some awesome points (buying a new house, a promotion) and some shitty points (still no job for Drew) but I think we're definitely not on a bad place, when we have friends who love us and enough money to sustain us.

Thank you to all who read this, especially when I post next to never. May the best of your past be the worst of your future. Truly.

How I know I'm acclimating quite well to the weather here:

I walked into the living room, though, "DAMN it's hot in here" and turned down the thermostat.

    It was set at 55.

shuzbut tagged me so I shall be a good monkey and follow instructions.

    RULES:
    Share 6 non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
Tag random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
Let each person know that they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
Link to the person that tagged you.
Let your tagger know when your entry is up. (As per usual, I'm not going to tag, but if you do the meme and don't post here, let me know where it's at so I can go read it.)

    1. A dozen or more times a day I check to see that none of my earrings have unscrewed or come loose. And yet I still lose the balls on occasion. That sounded so much more dirty/crass than I intended. Good idea for number 2. (HEH)

    2. If there's a way to turn a comment into something dirty or crass and I haven't said it out loud, I've said it in my head. Sometimes I wish I could be more refined, but I spend too much time at work pretending to do that.

    2. I apparently put too much milk in my cereal. And I thought the commercials were incorrect. Cereal should be swimming, not merely wet.

    3. I seriously dislike touching flour. Don't ask me to make bread unless there's a breadmaker involved. And I'll probably still ask you to measure and add the flour for me. Another sensation issue:

3a. I don't like sand touching anywhere other than on my feet. Why yes, I grew up in a beach community and no, I don't surf. Sand gets into uncomfortable places. No, I won't have sex with you on the beach. Probably.

    4. I wear retainers at night that give me brace face and make me lisp.

    5. I have two (technically 13) pieces of jewelery that rarely come off. My piercings and a breast cancer bracelet I bought after my mom was diagnosed.

    6. I've bitched more than enough about the drive I had into work, but I did really enjoy getting back in touch with some of my favorite music. It's not that I can't listen to it otherwise, but Drew had I have different enough tastes that there are things I wouldn't inflict on him, because he's nice and would put up with it. (Yes, I borrowed that one shuzbut =P)

    KVM Switch?
Anyone reading this use one? I'm limited to one desk as our available space is...not much. I don't really need to share video, and I would rather not deal with shifting screen resolutions as my lappy is a widescreen and my desktop monitor is not.

I've read about Synergy and it would be a great solution if the lappy wasn't wireless. Reviews I read said it was not so awesome for that.

It seems like the big names are IOGear, Linksys, D-Link and Belkin, but the Belkin Flip seems to be getting piss-poor reviews.

I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars, so the heavy duty ones are out. If I can get it through Amazon I don't mind spending a little extra on it as I have a gift cert.

So, my geeky friends, anyone have any experience or recommendations?

I am in Washington, safe and sound.

I highly recommend taking the train and getting a room if you have the time and money.

Will probably update more later. Computer isn't set up yet and we're still getting everything needed to get me settled.

    This is it.
In 5 hours (theoretically) I hop a train to WA. I'm packing the last of the stuff, Mom should up soon and we'll hit Farmer Boy for breakfast where I probably won't eat much. I have more crap than will probably fit in my three suitcases so that's a small bit of stress there.

I'll post again when I'm there and safe, won't be 'till late Wednesday or early Thursday.

    Short
    Because I'm hot and tired.

Slept on the floor the evening of the 30th.

Movers supposed to show up on the 31st at 7. They show up after. Done at 3:30, on the road around 4.

Drive until midnight 30. Sleep on the most uncomfortable Motel 6 bed ever. In the history of ever.

Get on the road the next day around 9 in the am. Get to Tukwila around 7ish. Eat, shower go to bed on air mattress. That won't stay inflated.

Run around doing errands. Get internet set up. Get dinner. Go to bed. Same airbed.

Get up at 4am to get in taxi to get to airport. Plane leaves at 7. Plane doesn't leave until...later. Rear toilet leaking. No rear toilet, lines for the lavatory. Woo.

Run to make connecting flight. Just make it. Get to SB around 11:45ish. Get picked up, get food, get settled. Have to run more errands. Have internet. Have a plug for the laptop. Can't have both at the same time. Woo.

It's a billion degrees here and I'm roasting. I remember why I spent most of summer not-here.

    Laptop needing juice. Woo.

    Awesome is...
    Awesome is...

Showing up to a coworkers birthday celebration wearing a full sized accordion strapped to your chest.

I told 'em I was going to do it, and apparently no one believed me.

My version of Happy Birthday was crap, but the funny factor made up for it, I think.

I'll need to get a copy of the photo of me (with the accordion) and the birthday girl (with a bottle of Mylanta).

It's shame I'm leaving this place.

I'm going to see if I can get Drew to record me playing so that they'll be able to have me play at everyone's birthday!

    Two in a row?
    Why yes, yes it is.

Shut up, Mr. Phelps would want it this way.

Your result for The Steampunk Archetype Test...

    The Aetherist Bodger

The aether carries the information, the aether is information. You are one of the few who know the ins and outs of Aether Terminals. You can access information across the Aethersphere, tapping into the Aetherpipes of anyone you want and stealing the information stored in their datatanks. Some think of you as a myth, a legend created to scare people. You are no myth or legend, you are quite real and you are currently reading the Queen’s AetherMissives.

    Goodbye Mr. Phelps
Can you believe it's been 8 years Mr. Phelps?

I'm happy that you're going to a home that will take care of you and really make use of your best features.

    I'll miss you.

Except when I have to parallel park.

    Two Weeks, Two Days...
...and perhaps some change, we will be on the road north. The truck will arrive the 30th or 31st and we will head out the next morning.

We're finding the little inconveniences that happen when most of your life is in boxes. As Drew said, "Tonight, the part of edamame will be played by corn." because we didn't leave out the large pot.

And my desktop is behaving badly. We're pretty sure it's a power supply issue, but there is no place in town to purchase a replacement (damn you PC Club for abandoning me!), so it's probably not going to be running until I arrive north, unless Drew decides to do something while I'm still in SB (part of me would like that, the other part wants to do it myself).

I have WoW on the lappy in preparation for August, but it's been days since I've played. I think I'm still in the Deadmines...I also loaded Diablo and Diablo II in case I need fun and games on the train. Or...whenever. (Diablo III!!! SQUEEEEE!!!)

    And that's all I have.

Just in case you were wondering...
...we're fine. We have friends who were evacuated a little bit ago, and a few friends in warning areas. We've only had to deal with slightly ashy air (and the accompanying sneezing) and the power going out at about 7 pm both last night and tonight. Fortunately we got power back around 9 today, rather than 3 am yesterday.

I still have a lot of paranoia left over from the Painted Cave fire from '90, so I have a mental list of what to grab that has been updated since packing. I figure if I'm prepared, it isn't going to happen, right? I'm again grateful that Princess Fuzzypants actually LIKES her carry cage so it shouldn't be too hard to get her in there if the need arises.

Phone calls probably won't get through, the lines have been jammed up, especially when we lose power. Texting seems to be working, so yay for that.

    Big News
Many of you know that Drew and I have been planning a move to the Pacific Northwest. The plan was for this to happen in 2010, after I finished school.

Due to the lack of employment in Santa Barbara and a generous offer from Drew's mom, we've upped the move date to this year. As in July/August of this year.

Drew will be leaving at the end of July, beginning of August. I will be leaving at the end of August, beginning of September, so I can finish a couple of work projects.

We'll be staying with Drew's mom initially, until we're settled into jobs and can afford our own place. The next couple of months we'll (Drew) be packing like mad, and will leave the apartment at the end of July. The current plan is that I'll drive up with Drew, the cat and our essentials (most of our stuff will go to storage) and then fly back down. I'll be spending August at my mom's and then will head up to the new place the first week of September.

    So yeah.

I'll put up a separate, comment locked post for contact information (if you'd like to keep in contact).

And that's all I've got. I'm going to go twitch in the corner, thinking about (Drew having to) pack(ing) everything. Again.

    Okay My Favoritest Peoples
    I need some advice.

GPS. Do you have one? Do you like it? Do you use it for good or for awesome?

I'm still not sure what exactly I want to get. I know that I'll want it for driving (living in the same place for 30 years and I can still get lost) but I'm fascinated by this whole Geocaching thing and know I'll want to do that too.

I'm also due for a phone upgrade (Upgrayedd!) in August, so a phone with potential GPS is an option as well.

So make with the opinions already!

    Life Update
I have apparently neglected to post about gluten-free stuffs here.

For those that aren't aware, I'm eschewing the gluten in hopes that it might help The Damn Fatigue. So far, so good. I've had stomach issues, but the tireds are mostly gone. They usually come back if I eat something I shouldn't. Basically anything with regular flour is out (google for more info, I won't inundate you with it here). There are other sneaky items that are harder to ID, but I'm getting better at reading labels. Eating out is...an adventure. Even asking the right questions I trust no one and expect that I'm going to feel like crap after eating out.

That being said, I've been sorta tired this week. I think the heat over the weekend was to blame. It's bad enough that I'm turning my speech homework in late. So much for 100% in that class.

School is...well...school. It keeps me disgustingly busy. I'm maintaining a decent enough GPA that I'm on the Dean's List, so that's something I guess. The only times I've been social have been study dates. I am a regular party machine. As soon as my homework is done.

Drew is still looking for work, so if you know a place looking for a most excellent graphic editor/marketing type person, send the info this way.

    And that's all I'v got. Damn, I've become quite a fascinating person, haven't I?
